Abstract

This research aims to understand the simultaneous presence of indigenous ancestors, "cowboys" and other social representations in the cults of caboclos in the religions of the Central African diaspora, especially in Candomblé de Angola and Umbanda. In addition, it seeks to investigate other meanings for the symbols and discourses related to a Brazilian identity present in some of these cults, extrapolating the interpretation based on typical representations of the romantic Indianism, of the stereotypical "Indian" as a symbol of Brazil.
