Abstract

In the context of the associated JP2 project, this project will contribute to the research focused on transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) and hexagonal Boron Nitride (h-BN). In these two classes of two dimensional (2D) materials, we will seek to better understand the correlation among their electronic properties, their morphology, and their luminescence as studied by a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) associated with a light injection/collection device. In particular, the luminescence of individual defects will be investigated, including the time correlation of single photons such as to identify single photon sources. The electronic properties and atomically resolved morphology will also be investigated. Effects of the substrate under the 2D material will also be considered as it can greatly affect the monolayer properties.
