Abstract

Bacteriophages are important biological agents, infecting the majority of bacterial strains. Bacteriophages studies are essential for the knowledge of ecological interactions, horizontal gene transfer and genome evolution. Besides that, Its importance as a biological control has grown. The project goal is to study a new viral particule found by electron microscopy in a Xanthomonas albilineans strain, causal agent of the sugar cane disease "Leaf Scald". Our objectives are the characterization of the type of viral genetic material, family classification, genome sequencing, characterization of range of infection in different strains and lityc capacity.
