Abstract

Aim: To analyze the relationship between sports practice and health costs accumulated over 11 months among adolescents of both sexes, as well as to identify the mediating role of body fatness on this possible relationship. Methods: Longitudinal study with an estimated sample of 248 adolescents, in which the fieldwork is organized to occur throughout 11 months. The contact with the participants to collect information on the use of health services will be monthly. Through an interview, personal and anthropometric data will be collected and information about the use of health care services will be reported by the parents / guardians of the adolescents and then the cost values of these services will be calculated. Body fatness will be measured by bone densitometry (DXA). Physical activity attributed to sports participation will be provided by accelerometer. Blood variables (lipid profile, insulin resistance and C-reactive protein), eating habits (questionnaire), sleep time (accelerometer), blood pressure and somatic maturation. Statistical analysis will use the software Stata (version 13.0). Expected results: It is expected to estimate the burden of sports participation in the health expenses of adolescents, as well as to identify the role of body fat in this relationship.
