Abstract

The objective of this study is to evaluate and develop a 45S5 bioglass with mesoporesfunctionalized with niobium and carbon fiber in order to obtain a material with potential forsynthetic bone grafting. In the in vivo study, 42 adult male rats (Wistar) will be used, and thematerial will be implanted in the subcutaneous tissue in 3 experimental groups, B: Bioglass45S5, B+N: Bioglass 45S5 with mesopores functionalized with niobium and B+N+F: Bioglass45S5 with mesopores functionalized with niobium and carbon fiber; they will be randomlydistributed, n=7 in each group, the euthanasia periods will be 7 and 14 days. The animals willbe euthanized by anesthetic overdose followed by decapitation. Histological,histomorphometric and immunohistochemical analyses will be performed on the subcutaneoustissue after biomaterial implantation and on the following organs: heart, liver, spleen, stomachand kidney. For each analysis the data will be analyzed first by descriptive statistical analysis,to establish the measures of central tendency and variability, then the appropriate inferentialstatistics will be performed (parametric or nonparametric tests, according to data distribution).A conventional significance level of 5% will be adopted.
