Abstract

SUMMARYIntroduction: Aortic stenosis (AoS) is the most prevalent valve disease in the Western elderly population. Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is the option of choice in symptomatic patients at extreme or high surgical risk, in relation to conventional surgical treatment (SAVR). As the prevalence of AoS increases with aging, women form the majority of the TAVI population. Although female gender is an independent predictor of worse post-SAVR outcomes, the impact of gender differences on TAVR outcomes is still uncertain, especially in Latin America, where the volume of these procedures is lower. Therefore, it is necessary to study TAVI practices and outcomes in our population, highlighting the possible clinical impacts of differences between men and women. Objective: To evaluate TAVI practices and clinical outcomes comparing men and women in multiple international centers in Latin America.Methodology: This is a multicenter, observational and retrospective international registry. Baseline clinical characteristics of patients, implant techniques and materials used, and clinical events will be evaluated according to VARC-3. The primary outcome will be the comparison of 1-year all-cause mortality between genders. As secondary outcomes, intraprocedural and 30-day mortality, 30-day device success (VARC-3), and procedure-related complications will be evaluated.
