Infodemic and (un)information about preventive measures and vaccination of COVID-19 in the state of São Paulo: a study linked to the Social Thermometer Project

Abstract

Background: The pandemic of COVID-19 impacted the world abruptly, causing major changes in the global sphere. The transformations caused by the disease are often discussed in major media, in this sense, the concept of infodemic is born, which represents the excessive increase of information related to a particular subject, making it difficult for the population to find safe sources and reliable guidelines on protective measures and the vaccine context of COVID-19 Objective: The present project aims to identify the main sources of information consulted for the adoption of protective measures, prevention and vaccination of COVID-19 in the state of São Paulo Method: This is a cross-sectional study, carried out with the samples of municipalities in the state of São Paulo. The present study will use the primary data, collected in online and offline format, under development by the Covid-19 Social Thermometer Project. Exploratory analysis will be performed to characterize the sociodemographic profile and will be verified which sources of information most accessed by participants to stay informed about the protective measures and about the vaccination of Covid-19 in the state of São Paulo, using descriptive statistics of quantitative parameters, the absolute and relative frequencies will be calculated for categorical variables, mean, median and standard deviation for continuous variables, to be performed in R version 3 software. 6.1 To verify the spatial distribution of the types of protective measures adopted and vaccination, choropleth maps will be constructed from the municipality of residence declared by the participant.
