Abstract

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an invasive, aggressive, and recurrent tumor subclassification among the female population. Due to the non-expression of important hormone receptors, there are difficulties both in the prognosis and in the treatment of patients diagnosed with TNBC. Chemotherapy, in the absence of targeted therapies, is the most used method in these cases. Seeking better responses to treatment, new studies have been conducted with compounds capable of inducing oxidative stress in tumor cells, causing cellular damage through increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and consequent apoptosis and/or reduction of resistance to hormone therapy. In view of the literature reports and previous studies carried out by our research group, in vitro studies point out the antitumor and pro-oxidant capabilities of Bromoquinone (BrQ), which acts as a modulator of the redox balance of tumor cells and induces oxidative stress. Therefore, and in view of the lack of published works to date, the objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of Bromoquinone in the treatment of tumor cells of the MDA-MB-231 lineage, with cell culture in 3D, through assays of cell viability (CellTiter-Glo® 3D), detection of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the intracellular medium and apoptosis with Annexin w/ DRAQ7", followed by statistical analysis.
