Abstract

Adventure sports are considered social and cultural phenomena, characterized by their departure from conventional sports, by putting practitioners in contact with the risk and unpredictability aspects of natural environments. These particularities of adventure sports can be manifested in different emotional and psychological states. Self-efficacy and passion, for example, are possible differentials in the profile of practitioners of adventure sports, considering that these concern the way in which individuals see themselves as capable of performing a certain activity successfully and relate to the activities practiced. Despite modernity and the positive psychological impact associated with adventure sports, these are still environments that allow and convey social and cultural manifestations of exclusion and prejudice, in particular, related to gender. Thus, this study aims to contribute to mapping the psychological profile of practitioners of adventure sports, by seeking to identify differences in levels of self-efficacy and passion for sport between these men and women. As methods, adult practitioners of adventure sports (rafting, kayaking, mountaineering, climbing and parachuting), of both genders, with at least 1 year of practice, will be invited to participate in this research. As instruments, the General Self-Efficacy Scale and the Passion for Sport Scale will be applied online. It is hoped to identify the main psychological characteristics in this public, especially the existing differences between genders, due to the stereotypes in these sports practices.
