Abstract

One of the ways of mitigating the greenhouse gas emissions involves the adoption of biofuels on a large scale and its combination with different strategies, such as electrification. Although already adopted in Brazil for years, the use of ethanol still presents challenges regarding the engine evolution aimed at the insertion of vehicles with hybrids, supercharged and new modes of low temperature combustion technologies. The development of computational models has been essential to potentialize the creation of engines, simulating its behavior with new fuels and technologies. In this context, the current study proposes the computational implementation of a charger mechanism of air and fuel through superchargers / turbocharger and a prediction model of ethanol knock in a simulation software developed at the institution in previous research. This study will be focused on the investigation of different autoignition models, in order to understand how the turbocharger operation affects the varied types of knock, to make it possible to implement these models in the existing code and then validate the model and use it to analyze the impacts of the use of ethanol in comparison to the use of gasoline in terms of efficiency and engine dynamics.
