Abstract This study aims to measure the technical efficiency indicators of coffee producers in the cities of Caconde, Divinolândia, Santo Antonio do Jardim, and São Sebastião da Grama, as well as to identify whether the coffee quality and cultural practices are determining factors of the technical efficiency of producers of these regions. The economically adverse situation of coffee growing in Brazil in recent years, generated by falling international prices, determines that many producers reduce the productive area or leave the activity. It is estimated that the inefficiency in coffee production contributes to the growth of negative results and the constant discouragement of coffee producers. In this way, the calculation and analysis of efficiency indicators allow the identification of efficient coffee production patterns, informing producers about the necessary changes to obtain positive economic results. Quality coffees have good physical and organoleptic characteristics, which generate better sales prices and increase the income of rural producers. The international coffee market exposes that specialty coffees obtain more than 80 points in the sensory tests of the drink, with quality being a determining factor in price. Primary information will be collected from a sample of 50 rural producers, with subsequent treatment of these data from the estimation of stochastic frontiers, which will allow the identification of characteristics of production technology and efficiency. Along with this, we seek to identify whether the superior quality obtained in the standards of drink and type favors the efficiency indicators, we seek to understand whether the improvement in product quality increases the technical efficiency indicators in coffee production. | |
