Abstract

The development of the power electronic converters for electrified aircraft propulsion as well as for the high voltage (~2kV) distribution buses will focus on topologies using WBG devices. Such devices, due to their fast-switching capacity (high dv/dt and di/dt) pose new challenges regarding the effect of the inductances and parasitic capacitances present in the circuit, including the power converter, load, and connections. For example, short connection cables should be considered as a transmission line due to the very fast voltage step applied by the power devices. The general objective is to study the consequences of the high dv/dt and di/dt produced by WBG. These impacts will consider the harmful effects on the charging and connection cables and will be minimized with the development of appropriate control systems. Mitigation solutions, including intelligent drivers, will be studied, developed, and applied in a prototype.
