Abstract

Insomnia is common in people with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and may aggravate obsessive thoughts and contribute to their persistence. Due to the negative impacts of sleep deprivation in this population, a specific treatment for sleep is justifiable. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a a potentially useful intervention for the treatment of insomnia in people with OCD, since instead of focusing on symptom control, this approach focuses on acceptance of associated feelings and thoughts through values-based actions. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of an ACT-based protocol in adults with diagnosis of insomnia and OCD. From a single-case research with multiple-baseline design, 10 adults aged between 18 and 59 years old, diagnosed with insomnia and OCD will be randomized into one of three baseline conditions (5, 6, or 7 weeks). The intervention, based on a protocol of ACT-BBI-I will be held in ten individual and weekly sessions. The ratings of outcome measures of sleep patterns, insomnia, OCD, depression, anxiety, psychological flexibility and inflexibility, acceptance about sleep and beliefs about sleep will be performed at pre-treatment, post-treatment and six-month follow-up. Time series analyzes of data will be realized from sleep diaries and measurements of psychological flexibility and inflexibility processes throughout the study period. (AU)
