Abstract

This project intends to research which elements of estrangement can be recognized in the performance A Louer (2011) created by the Brussels-based dance-theater company Peeping Tom, founded in 2000 by dancers Gabriela Carrizo and Franck Chartier. Therefore, the research will use the concept of estrangement as conceived by literary critic Viktor Shklovsky as an analytical tool. This term appears in his text The Art as Procedure, published in the year 1917. In this way, it will be analyzed the particularities of the scene's materiality present in the show A Louer used to make the strangeness process possible. In this sense, resources such as repetition and interruption in the sequences of movements and gestures, as well as the texts, which generate new perceptions for the audience, stand out. Through this approach, the research intends to contribute to the study of the relationship between the language of dance and theater, using a concept taken from literary analysis to deal with the materiality of the scene.
