Abstract

The performance of ophthalmologic tests such as quantitative lacrimais tests and tonometry are fundamental for ophthalmological evaluation in the clinical routine of teiús, however, the data about the reference values of these tests for the species are scarce, as well as the anatomical description of the entire visual apparatus of these animals. These values are fundamental for the proper performance of the ophthalmologic examination, because there are factors that hinder its practice, such as the diameter of the reduced eye bulb and therefore some of these tests require modifications when compared to ophthalmology of dogs and cats. The scarcity of these data motivates the development of this study, which aims to establish important parameters in ophthalmologic tests in teiús (Salvator merianae). They will be evaluated in eight healthy animals on clinical examination, tear production by means of the Schirmer 1 lacrimal test tests (TLS-I) and modified, endodontic paper tip, and intraocular pressure by means of rebound tonometry and planing of animals brought to the Center for Medicine and Research in Wild Animals (CEMPAS) of FMVZ- Botucatu. Additionally, with the objective of anatomical description of the eyelids and eye attachments, the dissection of the face of animals (n=5) brought to CEMPAS that came to death for reasons not related to this study will be performed. The hypothesis is that the teiú presents specific anatomical characteristics regarding ophthalmologic parameters, as well as anatomical parameters related to eyelids and attachments.
