Abstract

The research project aims to apply exact and numerical methods in nonlinear field theories to study phenomena related to the physics of topological solitons, with emphasis on non-perturbative aspects of it. This consists of two topics, the first of which is to explore the role of self-duality in a generalization of the BPS Skyrme model in which the Skyrme fields are interpreted as elements of an Hermitian symmetric space. This formidable generalization leads to an immense expansion of the possible physical interpretations of the Skyrme fields, with its study potentially leading to important applications for hadronic physics. The second topic consists in the study of extensions of the false vacuum Skyrme model that violates the self-duality equations, aiming to improve the theoretical description of some relevant quantities of nuclear physics in the low energy regime.
