Abstract

The Brazilian poultry chain has great prominence in the market, being characterized by quality products and low cost. Commercial-intensive egg production has increased, highlighting the need for pathogen control programs on farms, including bacteria of the genus Salmonella. With the entry of paratyphoid serovars in farms, the affected birds can harbor them in the digestive tract, being a source of infection for consumers. Often, to prevent these pathogens, antimicrobials are used, either prophylactically or growth promoters as well. The indiscriminate use of antimicrobials in poultry farming has contributed to the emergence of resistant bacteria, especially to aminoglycosides and ²-lactams, classes considered of high importance for the treatment of enterobacterial infections in human medicine. Due to the importance of controlling this pathogen, especially those resistant to antimicrobials, the present proposal is to evaluate the susceptibility to aminoglycosides and ²-lactam antimicrobials through the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) technique and to identify the genes responsible for these characteristics in paratyphoid serovars (S. Schwarzengrund, S. Mbandaka, S. Saintpaul, S. Senftenberg, S. Braenderup) isolated from commercial laying farms located in one of the main commercial egg producing regions of Brazil.
