Abstract

Blood pressure is a very important parameter for the assessment of a patient's health status, being used in the clinical and surgical settings to assist the decision-making process and to guide treatments. However, for this to be done safely, it is necessary to have confidence in the values obtained with the devices used, and for this, it must be validated for the species and situation in question (GAROFALO et al., 2012; TAYLOR et al., 2017; ACIERNO et al., 2018). The gold standard for measuring blood pressure is the invasive method, but its use is restricted because it brings greater risks and technical difficulty. In 2007, a consensus was developed for the validation of veterinary non-invasive blood pressure measurement devices (BROWN et al., 2007), which is done by comparing their results with the gold standard or with another device that has already been validated. In this context, this research aims to validate the InMonitor device (InPulse Animal Health), according to the standards established by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM), for its use in anesthetized cats. As recommended by the consensus, the values obtained by the device will be compared to those obtained simultaneously in an invasive way. For this, healthy cats will be anesthetized to undergo orchiectomy or ovariohysterectomy surgeries. After being anesthetized the cat's femoral artery will be catheterized to obtain direct blood pressure values. Simultaneously, indirect pressure values will be obtained by placing the cuff of the oscillometric device on their right or left thoracic limb. Eight measurements will be performed with two-minute intervals between them, being four in hypotension and four in normotension. The results obtained will be analyzed using the prism 7.0 program.
