Abstract

There is a growing need to meet the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and an increasing interest in social and environmental issues by companies worldwide. However, a UN report shows that even more needs to be invested, especially in emerging markets. In this project, we are using the theoretical perspective of cross-sector partnerships and nonmarket strategies; and we aim to analyze to what extent institutional government statements impact the collaboration between private companies and nonprofit organizations, thus detailing which characteristics inherent to partnerships between companies and nonprofits organizations can generate firms' and society's value creation. We will use panel data from companies listed on B3 between 2010 and 2022, including the 2016 regulation of nonprofit organizations and the electoral cycles of 2011-2014, 2015-2018, and 2019-2022. Furthermore, we intend to use the stagged differences-in-differences method to take advantage of the institutional changes (elections and change of law) during the study period. As a result, we expect to contribute to a more dynamic view of partnerships between companies and stakeholders, thus showing how institutional statements (from different governments) can impact collaborations with companies and nonprofit organizations. In addition, in the practical/applied context, the need for companies to take advantage of new opportunities to create synergies with nonprofit organizations from different sectors to have more opportunities to generate value.
