Abstract

Abstract: Articular injuries present a significant challenge for orthopedic specialists who strive to implement effective clinical treatments, aiming to prevent the progression towards degenerative osteoarthritis (OA), joint pain, and functional impairment. Osteoarthritis (OA) is recognized as the most prevalent joint ilness in humans, and it is regarded as a global public health concern. It affects approximately 240 million individuals, leading to substantial morbidity, disability, and diminished quality of life due to the severe levels of pain and functional limitations experienced. Notably, there has been a remarkable surge in the number of surgical procedures performed to address advanced osteoarthritis. Projections indicate an anticipated increase of 137% and 601% in reparative procedures involving articular cartilage of the hip and knee, respectively, within the United States by the year 2030. Among the potential interventions, the application of nanofracture technique (Nanofracture®, "Arthrosurface," MA, USA) has shown promising outcomes. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of nanofracture technique through experimental surgical procedures conducted on eight adult female Dorper-crossbred sheep, aged between 1 and 2 years, with a weight range of 45-60 kg. The right hind limbs' femorotibial-patellar (FTP) joints will be submitted to the surgical interventions. Subsequently, after a period of 180 days, the animals will undergo comprehensive clinical and tomographic assessments. Keywords: Chondral, nanofracture, tomography.
