Abstract

This work will evaluate the shear strength of expanded polystyrene (EPS) with different interfaces. The densities used will be 10, 14.5, 18, 28 and 33.5 Kg/m3. In the laboratory, specific mass tests and shear strength tests (direct shear) will be carried out in large-scale equipment (30x30) cm with different configurations (interfaces) in dry and saturated conditions. Interfaces will be tested with geomembranes (GM) of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), with sandy and clayey soils and with non-woven geotextiles. The soils will be taken from the region of Bauru (SP). The geomembranes will be provided by national companies as well as the geotextiles. The direct shear parameters (adhesion and friction angle) will be evaluated for peak and post-peak situations.
