Abstract

Asteraceae family. E. prostata has several popular names, such as false daisy, watercress, button herb, lancet herb, surucuína, coacica and tangeracá. Cumestanes (wedelolactone and demethylwedelolactone), flavonoids (luteolin and apigenin) and polyphenols are the main bioactive constituents of the species. In recent years, authors have shown some strategies to explore the chemical diversity of plants, focusing not only on a single target metabolite, but modulating the culture medium in order to get new biosynthetic molecules. Epigenetic modulation experiments in Arabidopsis thaliana showed that the transcriptome changes significantly during the callus incubation in the presence of the epigenetic modulator. This project aims to conduct epigenetic experiments using sodium butyrate in E. prostate callus, and thus identify new biosynthesized compounds. Parallel to the epigenetic modulation experiments, will be carried out the isolation of high added value quinic acid derivative.
