Abstract

Since the 1950s, around 90% of the world's coastlines are undergoing erosion, 5% are stable and only 5% are in progress, with varying intensities from one area to another as a result of natural and anthropogenic factors. In Brazil, problems associated with coastal erosion have been increasingly reported, especially in transition environments (such as coastal plains), which are even more sensitive areas due to the interaction between fluvial and marine dynamics. On the coast of the coastal plain of the river Paraíba do Sul/RJ and Jequitinhonha/BA, this process reached a critical level and became a social problem, with the relocation of families whose houses were invaded by the sea, the loss of tourist attractions and the worsening of environmental Quality. In this sense, based on the systemic approach, this project aims to understand this process from quantitative methods based on fractal geometry and deep learning, performing analysis of the entire drainage network of the aforementioned watersheds, diagnosis of alteration of the coastline in the last 50 years and prognosis for the next 50 years, both at 10-year intervals. With this, it is intended to demonstrate the progressions of the alterations of the coastline in position and area, to identify its causes from the qualitative analysis associated with the use of the land in the basins and to indicate possible mitigation solutions that are economically viable to be adopted for each area.
