Abstract

The use of photonic supplementation and hydroponic cultivation are trends in precision agriculture. Seeking to improve agricultural quality and productivity, artificial lighting has been used in the form of photonic supplementation (photobiomodulation), biostimulating plants and influencing their development in favor of ideal quality. Understanding new forms of integrated management, as well as bioecology in hydroponics supplemented with optimized photobiomodulation are still major challenges for the scientific community. Overcoming them is essential to deal with the current expansion of activity in the agriculture sector and risks related to emerging contaminants, among which are pharmaceutical assets. In this sense, this project will be carried out with a research block that includes in vivo analyzes with plants in development, subject to the incorporation of drugs artificially included in a hydroponic solution. Physiological status parameters will be investigated through spectroscopic techniques (fluorescence and fluorescence lifetime). It should be noted that the combination of pharmaceutical actives, hydroponic cultivation and light supplementation will be evaluated, along with the development of operational and monitoring protocols, aiming at to shed light onto the mechanisms of the absorption process of the actives in the plant cells and its macroscopic, microscopic, and physical-chemical processes, directly boosting the emergence of sustainable technology. In addition, the interaction of pharmaceutical actives ex vixo using plant extract will be evaluated, in parallel with the development of sensitive and specific analytical methods (UV-Vis absorption, fluorescence, UHPLC-MS/MS and GC/MS) for detection and quantification of agents chemicals of interest in order to ensure the quality and safety of food production and to protect the health of consumers. The project seeks to align basic and applied sciences with regard to the environment, agriculture and photonics.
