Abstract Cancer is among the main causes of death in the world, being considered a public health problem. Among them, gynecological ones are one of the most frequent, affecting the cervix, endometrium, ovary and vulva. The most advanced cases of these neoplasms are normally treated with combined chemotherapy of paclitaxel and carboplatin: the first with action on the cell mitosis cycle, and the other occurring in the nucleic acid bindings as a mechanism for inducing cell death. However, despite its effectiveness, such treatment is often accompanied by adverse reactions that, in addition to compromising the patient's quality of life, also lead to delays in treatment cycles, an increase in the number of hospitalizations and length of stay. Such conclusions may be related to the patient's own genetics, especially with regard to gene polymorphisms linked to the metabolization of these drugs. Thus, the main objective of this work is to evaluate possible associations between the polymorphisms of the GSTP1, GSTT1 and GSTM1 genes, and adverse reactions in patients with gynecological disorders treated with paclitaxel and carboplatin. For this, the clinical and demographic profile of 503 patients diagnosed with gynecological cancer, who received chemotherapy with paclitaxel and carboplatin, will be evaluated. From the genotyping results, it will be observed whether there was a preferential distribution of any genotype of the evaluated polymorphisms among those participants who had adverse reactions to the treatment. | |
