Abstract

Introduction: Aortic stenosis (AS) is the most prevalent valve disease in the Western elderly population. Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is the option of choice in symptomatic patients with higher surgical risk and/or elderly people, in relation to conventional surgical treatment. Bicuspid aortic valve is an important risk factor for AS and is the most prevalent form of congenital heart disease in adults. However, the impact of differences between bicuspid aortic valves vs. tricuspid on TAVR outcomes is still uncertain, especially in Latin America, where the volume of these procedures is lower. Objective: To assess the clinical impact and long-term outcomes of TAVR comparing patients with bicuspid aortic valves vs. tricuspid in multiple centers in Latin America.Methodology: This is a multicenter, observational and retrospective international registry. Baseline clinical characteristics of patients, implant techniques, materials used, and clinical events will be evaluated according to VARC-3. The primary outcome will be the comparison of long-term all-cause mortality between patients with bicuspid aortic valves vs. tricuspid. Secondary endpoints will include intraprocedural and 30-day mortality, 30-day device success (VARC-3), and procedure-related complications.
