Abstract

Introduction: The hospitalization of neonates can cause emotional distress, as well as high levels of anxiety and stress and, consequently, affect the quality of life of their mothers and family. Therefore, it is necessary to identify these parental psychological sufferings early for effective interventions during the hospitalization period of their children. Aim: To evaluate the level of stress and anxiety of mothers of infants hospitalized in neonatal wards. Method: This is a descriptive and prospective study, with a quantitative approach, which will be developed at the Sumaré State Hospital. The research will be done through two instruments: Parental Stress Scale: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (PSS:NICU) to assess the level of parental stress, and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (IDATE), to identify the level of anxiety of mothers; in addition to a maternal and neonatal characterization questionnaire, whose data will be collected in medical records. Mothers of infants hospitalized in neonatal wards, who have been hospitalized for at least three days, will be included. Data analysis will be descriptive and inferential, with comparison and correlation tests between sociodemographic and clinical variables and the mean PSS:NICU and IDATE scores. The project will be submitted to the Research Ethics Committee after approval by the institution where it will be carried out.
