Abstract The Pentatomidae are a highly diverse group, with about 1000 described genera and about 5000 described species. Several species are of ecological and economic importance. The higher classification of the Pentatomidae is a work in progress, with many of the tribal groups likely non-monophyletic and/or historical convenience groups. An integrated global classification of Pentatomidae has not as yet been established. This project represents the first robust phylogenetic analyses to employ next-generation sequences methods (UCEs phylogenomics) to approach the evolution and classification of the stink bug family. We will also analyse a morphological matrix to test congruences between data, and look for characteristics that support a revised classification of this important group of insects. | |
