Abstract

Introduction: Chronic respiratory diseases (CRDs) are the fourth leading cause of death in the world. Although incurable, physiotherapeutic interventions can bring significant benefits in pulmonary ventilation, functional capacity, global muscle strength, reduction of symptoms such as the feeling of shortness of breath, fatigue, cough and consequent improvement in quality of life. The gold standard for clinical practice in health is known as "Evidence-Based Practice (EBP)", formed by three pillars: patient preference, professional experience and scientific evidence, the latter being a professional's moral obligation to take the necessary therapeutic decisions based on the results of scientific research. Each year there is a progressive growth of publications on physiotherapy for CRDs, however, the methodological quality of these studies is unknown. Objective: Evaluate the methodological quality of randomized clinical trials of physiotherapy for chronic respiratory patients, understand which methodological quality items are most present and which are most absent in physiotherapy studies for chronic respiratory patients and evaluate the relationship between methodological quality and the year of publication of the investigated studies. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study will be carried out, based on the collection of data from randomized clinical trials published in scientific journals, registered on the PEDro platform (Physiotherapy Evidence Database). The search will be in "advanced" mode and the "topic" and "method" options will be filled with "chronic respiratory disease" and "clinical trial", respectively. To assess the methodological quality of the included studies, the PEDro scale. To investigate the normality of the data, the Shapiro Wilk test will be applied. And the Spearman test to investigate the correlation between the year of publication and the PEDro scale score.
