Abstract

The use of the technique of surgical removal of supratentorial tumors with awakened patient has been shown to be safe and with the potential to reduce costs related to hospital care, providing higher rates of tumor resection associated with lower rates of morbidity and functional impairment. These results have been consistent in several studies available in the literature, but there is still a lack of information on the impact on the use of the technique with regard to the incidence of clinical complications associated with the procedure and the length of hospital stay. The primary objective is to perform a comparative analysis of clinical outcomes among patients undergoing surgical resection of supratentorial tumors by the technique with awakened patient in relation to those in whom surgery with continuous general anesthesia was chosen. The secondary is the survey of the rates of neurological complications observed in the selected cases, as well as the time and costs of hospitalization, comparing with a control group (patients operated under general anesthesia) and results currently available in specialized literature. To this end, there will be data collection from medical records for retrospective analysis of patients operated by the Oncological Neurosurgery service of the Cancer Institute of São Paulo (ICESP) between 2018 and 2022, with a diagnosis of supratentorial tumors, and comparison with a control group of patients operated in the same period under continuous general anesthesia. The survey of the costs related to the assistance will be made with the Hospital Administration. Data analysis will be performed using descriptive and inferential statistics, through relative and absolute frequencies and their respective 95% confidence intervals, being considered p<0.05 as the defining factor of statistical significance.
