Abstract

This project aims to study the knowledge that teachers in initial training have about the development of mathematical reasoning and its processes, before and after an experience of continuing education. To achieve this objective, we will analyze data relating to reasoning processes present in questions of a diagnostic activity involving Spatial Geometry themes, to be applied as a pre-test and post-test of an extension course, offered to students of the Degree in Mathematics from the Instituto Federal de São Paulo - IFSP campus Guarulhos in the 2nd semester of 2024. The reasoning processes explored in the research are generalizing, justifying, exemplifying and classifying. A quantitative treatment of the participants' responses and a content analysis of the way they understand the reasoning processes will be carried out. We hope that the results provide evidence about the participants' knowledge of mathematical reasoning and the processes analyzed in the study of Spatial Geometry themes, in both moments of application of the diagnostic activity.
