Abstract

Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) is a subtype of interpersonal violence that mostly affects women. It is important to emphasize that IPV occurs among people of different ethnicities, sexual orientation, sex, gender, social class and education. That said, this type of violence is present in both heterosexual and homosexual relationships. However, the literature that aims to investigate victims belonging to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community is still scarce. It is considered that assessing situations of violence in homosexual couples in the same way as in heterosexual couples is a simplistic and inadequate way, since there are specific situations that individuals from the LGBT community face. Therefore, the present study seeks to investigate the similarities and differences in the experience of women victims of intimate partner violence in heterosexual and homosexual relationships. 10 women aged 18 years or over who have a history of IPV will participate in the research, 05 in heterosexual relationships and 05 lesbian women in homosexual relationships. All will participate in a remote interview which will be recorded and later transcribed for data analysis. Data will be analyzed qualitatively, based on categorical analysis, seeking to identify similarities and differences between participants. It is hoped that the study will contribute to the identification of specificities of women victims of IPV in homosexual relationships.
