Abstract

Melatonin, the main product secreted by the pineal gland of vertebrates, is a molecule with several functional properties, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and proliferation, differentiation and cell death modulation in different tissues and species. In the female reproductive system acts as a negative regulator of hormonal receptors, such as estrogen receptors; in addition, regulates the releasing of GH (growth hormone), estradiol, LH (luteinizing hormone) and prolactin, which is often related to the etiology and progression of breast cancer, since it has an action on motility and vascularization: important factors for the process of metastasis, the main cause of death for patients. In this context, the aim of this project is to evaluate the effects of melatonin on the motility of breast tumor cells (MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231) induced by prolactin. To achieve this purpose, these cells will be treated with two different concentrations of prolactin and those that have a greater migration-stimulating effect will be used for melatonin treatment trials. The effect of melatonin on the migration of both cell lines will be evaluated using the horizontal migration assay (Wound Healing).
