Abstract

Introduction: In the last decades, researchers have been seeking new alternative technologies to the use of traditional bone grafts. The most promising one is the use of collagen and nanohydroxyapatite scaffolds which constitute a framework three-dimensional to support cell adhesion, extracellular matrix deposition and osteogenic neoformation. In addition, these biomaterials can be used together with other compounds to improve their physical-chemical properties such as the use of Pomegranate extract due to its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antioxidant actions. Objectives: Investigate and evaluate the effects of applying collagen and nanohydroxyapatite scaffolds with Pomegranate extract (PG) in the process of osteoregeneration in cranial injuries. Method: Experimental study, qualitative and cross-sectional, in which 30 rats will be used to undergo the experimental procedure of creating a defect in the parietal bone of the skull. The animals will be divided into 3 groups: Group 1 (control)- there will be no graft filling, Group 2- grafted with collagen + nanohydroxyapatite scaffolds and Group 3- grafted with collagen + nohydroxyapatite + PG scaffolds. After 16 weeks, painless induced death of the animals will be performed and cranial samples from the surgical area will be photographed and removed for macroscopic, radiological and histomorphometric analyzes of bone repair.
