Abstract

3D printing using polymeric filaments is a popular technique; however, the precision and accuracy of the produced parts still require approaches that focus on controlling the deposited melted material. This can be influenced by process variables such as the geometric complexity of the part and printing parameters. In this context, the research project aims to investigate the impact of printing parameters on the geometric accuracy of parts produced by Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) in 3D printers. The parameters under investigation will include the nozzle diameter, print speed, and printing temperature. Three different part geometries will be considered in the experiments. Design of Experiments (DOE) statistical analysis will be the statistical tool used to plan, conduct, and analyze the experiments to identify and optimize 3D printing conditions. This study aims to comprehensively examine these parameters, identifying their relationships with part precision and geometric accuracy. Additionally, the research will seek to optimize these parameters to achieve parts of superior quality. The results of this project will contribute to enhancing the understanding and control of 3D printing quality, benefiting the additive manufacturing industry and technological applications of the FFF process.
