Abstract

The present work has as its starting point the contemporary novel by Itamar Vieira Junior, Torto Arado (2019). This literary work serves as the basis for the proposed discussions about the architectural and landscape aspects that structure and reveal historical, social, cultural and human issues. Thus, the main objective was the existing human bond with Architecture and Landscape, as a house and environment that surrounds it, in order to evidence the role of Literature as an instrument capable of building a wide knowledge field that has not yet been widely explored. From this point of view, theoretical works were used as references in order to interpret the elements full of significance in Torto Arado, from characteristics of the Chapada Diamantina until the constructive techniques on this landscape of the Brazilian Northeast. Through these, it seeks to analyze under the light of concepts of sociology and geography the building role of the architectural type and the environment in relation to the human being, by means of Gilberto Freyre and Yi-Fu Tuan. In addition, in order to enhance the issue presented, a fieldwork will be carried out, with a visit to Chapada Diamantina, with the purpose of experiencing the discussions addressed by the literature base of the study. Therefore, from the theoretical foundation and practical experience, the research project aims to serve as a multidisciplinary material for other research related to man's involvement with the environment, proving the literary potential in the academic fields.
