Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus is a Gram-positive microorganism often found in the microbiota of healthy individuals. However, it is considered an opportunistic bacterium, possessing several virulence factors and antibiotic resistance mechanisms, causing various pathologies in humans with weakened immune systems. In this context, the development of herbal medicines derived from O. vulgarie "oregano" is an alternative to solve the problem of S. aureus resistance to antibiotics. This project aims to evaluate the antimicrobial and antibiofilm potential of the hydroalcholic extract of O. vulgarie on a strain of Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 6538) in a 24h period. The percentage of Soluble Solids content will be carried out. Subsequently, the quantification of the content of flavonoids and total phenols, antioxidant analysis by means of the 2,2'-diphenyl-1picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH). The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and the Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) will be determined by the broth microdilution method (CLSI M7-A6). After the application of the extract on the biofilm, the viability test of the bacterial cells will take place using the MTT solution. The results will be statistically analyzed by ANOVA and Tukey's test (p d 0.05).
