Abstract

Cape gooseberry (Physalis peruviana L.), from Solanaceae family, produces high market value fruits, with potential to be cultivated in Brazil. In 2019, physalis rugose mosaic virus (PhyRMV), from genus Sobemovirus, was reported infecting the plant in Santa Catarina, Paraná, and São Paulo estates. Given that the disease decreases production, the virus is easily transmitted through cultural management, and no alternative control options are known, the aim of this work is to isolate a mild strain of PhyRMV to protect cape gooseberry plants through cross-protection. After the mild strain isolation, tests will be done to confirm protection viability.
