Abstract

The city, a symbolic territory, is the stage where fluxes of bodies, information, goods and services take place. In spite of the academic literature that places the contemporary as deterritorialized, uprooted or disembedded, it is believed that all deterritorialization leads to reterritorialization. The research aims to investigate the possibility of re-territorialization of urban space through performative dérive walks. It also aims to research the bodily and sensorial effects produced by the dérives. Individual and group performance drifts will be carried out, with urban art collectives, in the city of São Paulo. The dérive consists of walking through the city relating to the various urban elements, aiming to rescue the sensorial, relational and symbolic experience with the urban territory, currently dominated by functional logic and economic production. Dérive is understood as a practice of urban, aesthetic and political intervention. A cartography will be carried out in order to monitor this subjective process of appropriation and re-territorialization. Cartography is understood as a method based on experience and the rhizome principle, in which there is no linear and pre-determined path. It consists of inhabiting an existential territory, mapping its psychosocial landscape, following agencies, lines of forces and escapes. As part of the cartographic analysis, reports of experiences, audio recordings and photographs of the spaces covered during dérives will be carried out, as well as semi-structured interviews with people from colletives that practice dérives.
