Abstract

The division of the Portuguese Empire between the State of India and the General Government of Brazil, headquartered respectively in Goa and Salvador, has largely inspired historiographical studies that emphasize this separation rather than the analysis of interactions on a planetary scale established during Lusitanian colonialism. Embedded in the JP2 Barroco-açu Project: Portuguese America in the artistic geography of the global South (FAPESP Process 21/06538-9), in the Master's research titled Landscape and Globalization: Goa and Salvador in the formation of the Portuguese Empire (FAPESP Process 2023/05261-9), and supported by the concepts of Globalization (Gruzinski, 2004), Material Culture (Meneses, 1980), and Landscape (Santos, 1996; Meneses, 2002), this project aims to address this framework by considering Goa and Salvador together and related to processes of globalization.For this purpose, in an interdisciplinary approach and in frank dialogue with Landscape Archaeology (Bueno; Barreto; Dias, 2021), textual and visual sources from the time period are mobilized from collections in Portugal and Spain to trace traces of the material configurations that characterized these artifacts in past times. It is hoped that this Foreign Research Internship will significantly enrich the universe of sources for the ongoing research in Brazil, while fostering stronger ties between Brazilian and foreign scientific production regarding the themes addressed by the Master's research under development in the country. Additionally, the dissemination of the ongoing studies is anticipated through participation in an International Seminar in Goa.
