Abstract

At the outset, this research project starts from the observation that the awards for architecture are important events for both production and architectural criticism, since they function as beacons of what are being considered as good field practices in a specific geographical and temporal frame. Then it was observed that from the second decade of the 21st century, there was an outpouring of awards in Latin America, although only works were found that propose to analyze any of these awards in isolation. In this context, the project tries to fill this gap in an unprecedented way and is dedicated to elaboration of a critical analysis of the set based on three great prizes: the Prize Rogelio Salmona, the Oscar Niemeyer Prize and the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize. In addition to the analysis of an architectural object itself, the work aims to identify narratives common to the awards and how they interrelate. For this, if also investigates the institutions promoting each award, in addition to the actors involved in the conception of the projects and the jury in charge of selecting the winners. The objective is to understand the reason for the recurrence of certain discourses in production and criticism architecture of recent years and the relationship between the displacement of these actors, be it geographic or disciplinary field, with the displacement of a narrative.
