Abstract

This research proposal builds upon the progress in the current research grant 2020/16097-7 funded by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP). A survey was conducted in the earlier phases of the PhD project to gather data on travel patterns, shared mobility usage, and mode choice factors among transport users in the Rotterdam-The Hague metropolitan region. Based on this data, the aim of this proposal is to characterize the users of shared mobility services in the study area, identify reasons for the adoption of shared mobility by the Dutch, and assess the contribution of this service to the transportation system. We will conduct data analyses including mixed logit models to identify factors influencing the choice of shared mobility services. As a result, we expect to provide insights into the behaviour of shared mobility users that can contribute to both academic understanding and management decisions by operators. We also plan to design a GIS-based multimodal model to analyse how transport disruptions influence mode choice, assessing different scenarios. This model will help evaluate shared mobility's potential to enhance an equitable and resilient transport system, aligning with the subsequent stages of the PhD project. Conducting the research internship at the University of Twente (UT) is crucial for studying the Dutch mobility system, facilitating deeper understanding, and making meaningful contributions to the PhD project. It is noteworthy that Professor Karst Geurs and his research group at UT have extensive experience in these topics, and their contributions will be essential for the successful implementation of this research proposal.
