Abstract This project aims to investigate the estimation of cluster masses and associated parameters using photometric data, with a focus on the splashback radius (Rsp), which is the location where recently accreted material reaches its first apocenter. The objectives include the development of a method to estimate cluster mass (Msp, M200) and mass accretion rate () based on Rsp, through modeling of the cluster's cumulative number profile and calibration using spectroscopic data. The approach will be applied to various photometric surveys, and the results will be compared with theoretical predictions, contributing to the assessment of the hierarchical model of structure formation. Additionally, the analysis of galaxy colors and their stellar populations in the splashback region will provide insights into galaxy accretion and environmental effects, offering a broader understanding of the connection between galaxy evolution and cluster properties. This project equips the student with quantitative research skills and prepares them for future astronomical investigations, including those using advanced telescopes, such as the Giant Magellan Telescope. | |
