Abstract

Understanding the relationship between land use for agriculture and its effects on climate is the main focus of this project, as its importance is relevant both from an economic and environmental point of view. The main objective of this work will be to verify if there is a correspondence between the agricultural territorial expansion and the incident precipitation in the state of São Paulo. Data from meteorological stations provided by the National Institute of Meteorology and also the CHIRPS global database will be used, together with information on land use, available on the MapBiomas and TerraBrasilis platforms. The analysis of the information will be done by grouping the information at different spatial scales (by classes and by clustering techniques), and will be based on specific indexes, such as the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI), Climate Change Indexes (calculated by the RClimDex software) and the Mann-Kendall Test. Thus, data on land use and precipitation will be used for comparison and analysis, seeking to relate different types of culture to variations in the accumulated precipitation. This work is expected to improve the understanding of the likely impacts that changes in vegetation cover and land use may have on rainfall over time in the state of São Paulo.
