Abstract

Introduction: "Goals of Care" (GC) are established based on the patient's needs, preferences, and values, playing a fundamental role in guiding medical decisions andthe treatment plan. These goals have been associated with positive outcomes in end-oflife care, particularly in reducing psychological distress such as stress, anxiety, anddepression among bereaved family members, increasing satisfaction with care, decreasing hospital mortality rates, and facilitating earlier referrals to palliative Care. Therefore, it is essential to routinely incorporate discussions about GCwith cancerpatients throughout their oncology treatment. Objective: To assess the knowledge of oncologists and oncology residents regardinggoals of care in clinical practice. Materials and methods: This is a cross-sectional and methodological study. It will beconducted using a questionnaire aimed at evaluating professionals' knowledge about GC, with its content validated (content validity) through a Delphi Consensus and pre-testing. The second phase will involve a survey, applying the developed questionnaire to assessprofessionals' knowledge of GC and how doctors implement these measures indailyclinical practice. An educational material will be developed based on GCconcepts andthe main questions derived from the assessment of professionals' knowledge inthisstudy. Throughout the study, a statistical significance level of 0.05 will be considered, and the data will be analyzed using the SPSS software for Windows, version 21.
