Abstract

Grief is a normal and expected psychological process that occurs when a loved one is lost. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects and to understand the perception of an adapted version of Complicated Grief Therapy (CGT) in bereaved family members of patients undergoing cancer treatment. A quasi-experimental study will be carried out (pre- and post-intervention sample evaluation) and reports will be collected during the sessions. The sample will be made up of bereaved relatives of patients who were undergoing cancer treatment at the Cancer Institute in a city in the interior of São Paulo, and would like to take part in the research. The instruments used will be: Sociodemographic questionnaire prepared by the researchers; Prolonged Grief Assessment Instrument - PG - 13; Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale - DASS - 21. Data analysis: The data collected in the pre-intervention period will be compared with the post-intervention data by means of statistical analysis in order to verify statistically significant changes in the variables analyzed. In addition, patients' reports will be collected during focus group sessions in order to qualitatively verify their perception of the therapeutic group.
