Abstract

The urbanization process within the city of Sumaré (SP) follows a dynamic that situates itself within the historical context of production of its geographical space, since its origins to the present days the advance of urbanized areas presents its own caracteristics shaped by the events of the region and the city throughout history. The research endeavors to map and analyze the urbanized areas expansion and its growth vectors in the city of Sumaré, through the production of thematic maps and use of geotechnologies. The methodology to be applied comprises survey and review of bibliographic material, multitemporal thematic mapping of urbanized areas with the aid of geotechnologies and digital processing of remote sensing images, fieldwork trips for data collection and recording, and visits to institutions of interest. In this way, the purpose is to contribute to geographical knowledge regarding the urbanization process in Sumaré and to the adoption of public management and planning policies.
