Abstract

This is an investigation into the cognitive linguistics research program. Research program presupposes the articulation of the theoretical background and the forms of investigation of this model of linguistic sciences. The theoretical background and forms of investigation will be addressed by evaluation schemes for scientific practice that include the notion of style in science, as developed in the works of Crombie (1994), Hacking (1994; 2002), Granger (1974 [1968 ]) and, mainly, in the recent works of Bezerra (2018) and Bueno (2012; 2018); and the notion of scientific research strategy, developed in the works of Lacey (2008; 2010; 2022). Given this research object and based on this conceptual scheme, the problem we will focus on can be formulated as follows: which styles of reasoning predominate in cognitive linguistics and how can certain research strategies correspond to them? Our hypothesis is that a combination of hypothetical modeling and evolutionary style predominates in cognitive linguistics, to which predominantly contextualized restriction and selection strategies are combined. In view of this, we intend to show that cognitive linguistics represents, from our point of view, a recontextualization of linguistic sciences, especially in relation to models with which it competes, such as generative grammar.
