Abstract

The present project aims to determine the water/n-octanol partition coefficient of acridine orange using microelectrode voltammetry. The shake-flask method will be used for the partition experiments and the partition coefficient value will be calculated from voltammetric recordings made in the aqueous solution before and after partition. The effect of pH on the aqueous solution will also be evaluated and, to this end, a systematic study will be carried out to evaluate how the partition of this compound varies with pH. The information obtained from the development of this research will be of great value for the interpretation of experiments in which this dye is used in photodynamic therapy.
