Repassos: the weaving of the Triângulo Mineiro region in exhibition at MASP and research by CNRC

Abstract

This proposal for scientific research in the country aims to identify the connections between the exhibition "Repassos: exposição-documento" ("Repassos:documentary exhibition") held at the São Paulo Museum of Art Assis Chateaubriand (MASP) in 1975, and the research project "Tecelagem do Triângulo Mineiro" ("Weaving in the Triângulo Mineiro"), executed between 1976 and 1986 by the Centro Nacional ed Referência Cultural (National Center for Cultural Reference). For this purpose, visits to the MASP collection and the CNRC fund at the IPHAN Archive, located in Brasília, are proposed, aiming at a documentary analysis that establishes specific readings on each of the initiatives and their possible relationships of influence. As results, a contribution is expected to the discussions regarding the identity of design in Brazil, as well as its cultural heritage preservation policies, given the proximity of the phenomena studied to two important figures for such dialogues in the country: Lina Bo Bardi, one of the organizers of the 1975 exhibition, and Aloísio Magalhães, one of the founders of the CNRC. Additionally, it is the intention of this research to shed light on issues related to weaving production in the 1970s, contributing to the bibliographic deepening of Brazilian artisanal productions.
